Ali Khalil Qanso (Arabic: علي قانصوه), or Kanso, was born in 1948 in Doueir, Lebanon. He is a pro-Syrian Shiite Muslim. He received a degree in Arabic literature from the Lebanese University in 1969.
He was for the 2nd time head of the Syrian Social Nationalist Party between August 5th 2005 and July 2008. He was Minister for Labour of Lebanon in the government of Rafiq Hariri between 2000 and 2003.
He again entered into government in July 2008 as Minister of State[1] under Fouad Siniora with the backing of Hezbollah as part of the March 8 Alliance, although his appointment caused controversy and was initially vetoed by Siniora.[2]
